TRESIBA PENFILL IOOIU contains insulin degludec which belongs to the group of medications called
ultralong-acting basal insulin. It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and in children
aged I year and above. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels
of glucose in the blood due to inadequate production of a hormone called insulin (produced by
pancreas to metabolize glucose) or inadequate sensitivity of cells to the action of insulin.
Insulin degludec is indicated to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. It binds to
the alpha subunit of insulin receptor and stimulates the phosphorylation of various insulin receptor
substrates proteins, which results in activation of those genes which play critical roles in glucose
metabolism.
The most common side effects of taking this medicine are hypoglycemia. Insulin degludec is
contraindicated in patients with episodes of hypoglycemia. It is strictly not recommended for the
treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Inject this medicine subcutaneously into the thigh, upper arm, or
abdomen. Patients using TRESIBA PENFILL 1001U should never share needles or syringes with another
person.
